Tapkeshwar Temple in Dehradun is one of the most prominent Shiva temple. It is situated near a forest and has a main shivalinga within a natural cave. The temple also hosts the annual Tapkeshwar Mela.

The name of the temple has been derived from the Hindi word Tapak, which means “to drop”. The special feature of this temple is the water dropping from the ceiling of the cave over the Shiva linga ,and hence, it was named as Tapkeshwar Temple.

According to legend, those who come to seek the god's blessings may have their wishes granted by the shivling. Guru Dronacharya, the respected teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, is also believed to have lived here.  The temple is situated in a beautiful setting where tourists can picnic and enjoy the natural beauty.

Hundreds of tourists from inside and outside Dehradun visit the magnificent Lord Shiva temple located between the two hills during the year.

Shivratri is the biggest festival celebrated at the temple when thousands of pilgrims come and pay tribute to the deity.
