Many find this Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple as a replica of the world-famous Kailasa Temple in Ellora Caves. Many also see this as the foundation of all temples and the root of faith itself.

A passage is located along the compound wall, with a symbolic significance. There is a narrow entry passage to allow the circumambulation, into which devotees must crawl into. In order to enter the passage it is necessary to climb seven steps. Crossing the narrow passage is symbolic of going through life. After the circumambulation, the exit is indicative of death through a pit, or another narrow path. The port of entry for this passage is called Death Gate. It is assumed that circumambulation across the various deities will offer the same blessings as visiting paradise.

When circumambulation is full-Crawling and coming out of the passage also means that your coming out of the womb of your mother and also describes the rebirth belief of Hindu. Exit is, thus, called Door of Creation. There is another assumption that the probability of rebirth is not there by completing this circumambulatory path, and that you can attain Moksha. Such passage is Special, which describes the life cycle including the phases of ageing, death and rebirth.
