On Wednesday, the Indian government asked Wikipedia's online encyclopaedia to delete a map from its site that showed Aksai-Chin as a part of China. Under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has issued an order directing Wikipedia to delete the link.

Actions were taken after the wrong map on the Wikipedia page was pointed out by a Twitter user, linked to it by the Union Ministry and asked the government to take stern action against the website.

Sources said that on November 27, 2020, taking cognizance of the matter, the ministry issued an order directing Wikipedia to remove the map as it violated India's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

They added that if it does not make the changes, the government will take legal action against the company, including blocking access to the entire platform.

The government said that the content posted on the website was done with the intent to “defame” the country and has the “potential to disturb the sovereignty and harmony of the nation”.
