Below is a list of temples known as the Land of Temples in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Nearly 33,000 ancient temples are found scattered all over the state, many at least 800 to 5000 years old. There are 38615 temples according to Tamil Nadu Hindu Endowments Council. This is where most of the largest Hindu temples exist. Studded with intricate architecture, a number of sculptures and rich inscriptions, the temples remain the very center of the Tamil land culture and heritage, with historical records dating back at least 3,000 years. The state maintains 2,359 temple tanks in 1,586 temples. The Government has listed 1,068 refurbishment tanks.
