According to sources, the Indian Army wants its staff to uninstall 89 apps ranging from Tiktok, Facebook, Truecaller, and Instagram to games such as PUBG Mobile and datings apps such as Tinder, as well as news apps such as Daily Hunt and other 'private blogs.' The army needs troops to uninstall these applications to plug the leakage of information from their cell phones by July 15 according to the news.

A news agency ANI tweet includes a screenshot of a website with an app list and the word, 'Social Media Apps: Prohibited for Use.' It cites sources from the Army to suggest the ban is on plugging information leakage. Another report from IndiaTV News added that the army had set a July 15 deadline to delete those apps, or face action. Before that, the Army allowed its personnel to use Facebook, but with restrictions such as not posting uniform pictures or revealing their unit location, according to a Times of India report.

Any of the 89 apps are among those already banned by the Center claiming that "they participate in activities that are harmful to India's sovereignty and independence, India's protection, state security, and public order."
