Architecture of Ucchi Pillayar Temple

On top of the rock is the temple. The temple with its awe-inspiring rock architecture is mystical in its nature. The Ganesha temple is much smaller with access through steep steps carved on the rock and provides a spectacular view of Trichy, Srirangam and the Kaveri and Kollidam rivers. Due to its ancient and impressive architecture created by the Pallavas, the temple is maintained by the Archaeological department of India.

Vibhishana, was the Asura King Ravana's younger brother who ruled Lanka. Lord Rama in Ramayana 's epic rescues his wife Sita, who was kidnapped and detained by Ravana, who was defeated by Sugriva and Hanuman with the help of. In this war, Ravana 's moral and truth-abiding brother, Vibishana helps Rama battle his brother. Ultimately Rama wins the war and as a token of love, he gives Vibishana a Lord Ranganatha vigraham (idol for worship), a Vishnu type.Vibhishana was actually an Asura, though he supported Rama, and the Devas decided to avoid this notion of an Asura bringing the supreme form of Lord into his Kingdom. They are asking for help from Removing obstacles and God of learning, Lord Vinayaka and the Lord are accepting the plan. Vibhishana passes through Trichi while on his way to his Country, and wanted to take his bath in the Kaveri River and do his daily rituals. He is perplexed, however, as the deity, once kept on the ground, can never be removed and must remain forever in that place. As a solution, Vibishana tries to find someone to hold the deity while he was taking bath. He finds the Lord Vinayaka in a cowherd boy's disguise. According to the plan, Vinayaka takes the deity and keeps it firmly in sand, at the banks of kaveri, when Vibishana is fully in water. The angry Vibhishana chases the boy on seeing this, to punish him, and the boy keeps running and climbs over the rock near the bank of Kaveri. Ultimately Vibhishana enters the boy and hits him on the forehead. Also now, one can see a hole in the idol 's forehead. The boy then turns out to be Vinayaka.Vibishana apologizes immediately, and the Lord gives him his blessings, reveals that the idol is destined to stay in Srirangam, and sends it off to Lanka. In many respects this is similar to the story of Lord Ganesha in Gokarna with Ravana in the same period of Ramayana.

Place where the deity of Ranganathan was kept was later covered in deep forests due to disuse, and it was discovered after a very long time when the deity was accidentally found by a Chola king chasing a parrot. He then established the Temple of Ranganathaswamy, Srirangam as the world's largest temple complex. Meanwhile, in the rock which Vinayaka used to escape from Vibishana, the Pallavas built the Vinayaka temple and the Thayumanaswamy temple.
